I am pleased to accept your invitation to judge Cairn Terriers on 22nd May 2005 and I am looking forward to meeting you all at the show.

I started in cairns in 1969 and registered my first litter in 1971. I am a founder member of the Midland Cairn Terrier Club and served on it’s committee for eighteen years.

Along with my wife Jean we are members of all six Cairn clubs of the British isles.

We have bred two champions CH Glenmear Mischief and Ch Glenmear Milligan.

As to my judging experience, I judged over two hundred cairns before awarding Kennel Club Challenge Certificates for the first time in 1988 at the Scottish Kennel Club Show in August.

Since then I have awarded kennel club challenge certificates tickets at Leicester in 1992, Southern Counties in 1994 The North of Ireland Cairn Terrier Club in1997 Driffield championship show in 1999, The South Wales and West of England Cairn Terrier Club Show in 2001,and Southern Counties in 2004. I have also judged overseas in Belgium Denmark (twice) and Sweden awarding CC’s in both Sweden and Denmark and in 2004 I judged the Victoria Cairn Terrier Club Championship Show in Australia.

I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge your show.

Special thanks must go to Karl and Christina Brussing for all their time and hospitality to my wife and I during our stay.

I enjoyed judging the many exhibits and I hope the following comments are helpful.

I found that for me, heads need to improve, muzzles were, in many cases, too long, giving the wrong expression. The stop between the eyes needs to more pronounced and also the crown of the head needs to be more rounded.

In quite a few exhibits movement tended to be loose in front action and too close from the rear.

Coats in the main were very good but neck and shoulders require watching as in a number of exhibits shoulders were too upright.
